DEMBOW
-
Train your body to hold rhythm, contradiction, and heat—guided by the pulse of tropical and Caribbean rhythms.
-
DEMBOW invites dancers and movers with an active practice into a dynamic class rooted in tropical and Caribbean contemporary aesthetics, spanning dembow, neo-reggaeton, and electro-Amazonian soundscapes.
We sweat through a spine-led warm-up and move through shared rhythmic commonalities across Latin diasporic forms—exploring hips, torso, and shoulders through isolations, contra-tiempo, and fluid transitions in and out of the floor—infused with Latin American and Caribbean urban idiosyncrasies.
The space offers guidance and breakdown of key concepts while maintaining a steady, physically engaging flow that builds stamina, control, and musicality.
Rhythm is treated as something inhabitable, trainable, and alive in the body—so you can access la gozadera.
The class may move between English, Spanish, Spanglish, or a mix of all three, depending on the room.
